Degree courses

If you wish to study ergonomics/human factors then the university courses listed below are those that have have been accredited by the IEHF. This means that the content of the course and the credentials of the teaching staff meet the standards set by the IEHF. They all provide a wide range of academic and professional training for a career in ergonomics and human factors.

Many ergonomists come from a background having a first degree in a cognate subject (e.g. psychology, engineering). There are a number of ergonomics and human factors MSc postgraduate degree courses many of which are combined with an associated subject like psychology or design. An MSc is usually a taught postgraduate degree, involving lectures, exams and a project. These programmes involve 1 or 2 years of full-time study (or the equivalent part-time). Many are now taught through distance learning.

Graduates from these courses are eligible to join the IEHF as Graduate Members. If you graduate from a course that is not on this list, you can still join the Institute as an Associate Member. Both Graduate and Associate member grades will allow you to become a Registered Member with appropriate experience.

Course Accreditation

If your university runs an ergonomics or human factors course then you should think about having it accredited so that it is promoted by the IEHF. Click here for information on accreditation (this will be available shortly).
