There are only two basic steps to joining the Institute as an individual:

1. Decide which grade of membership is right for you.

  • If you are a student on any course, you can join as a Student Member.
  • If you are a recent graduate and you have studied ergonomics on one of our Qualifying Courses, you can join as a Graduate Member.
  • If you simply have an interest in ergonomics and want to enjoy the benefits of membership, you can join as an Associate Member.
  • If you are suitably qualified and experienced in ergonomics then you can join as a Registered Member.
  • Experienced ergonomists (10 years+) can apply to become a Fellow of the IEHF.

There will be opportunities to upgrade your membership as your study, training and experience progresses.

If you work in an ergonomics consultancy or in a group of ergonomics professionals within a company, you might like to consider applying to become a Registered Consultancy. You get all the benefits of individual membership plus wide-scale promotion of your business.

2. Make a successful application.

The application procedures for most of the grades are simply to complete the relevant application form and submit it to the office.

For the professional grades (Registered Member and Fellow), we require a more rigorous process in order to maintain appropriate standards, so applications for these grades are assessed by our Professional Affairs Board. All professional members must abide by our Code of Conduct.

All the information that you need is on this website but if you have any additional questions, we are always available with helpful advice by telephone on 01509 234904, or email membership@ergonomics.org.uk.
