Training course accreditation
If you run an ergonomics or human factors related training course, we would be very pleased to hear from you. Please read the following information for full details of the application procedure. The application form can be downloaded at the bottom of this page.
What do courses need to cover?
Courses can either be introductory and aimed at non-ergonomists, or specialist and aimed at providing CPD (continuing professional development) for ergonomists. These may cover one or more of the following five knowledge areas:
- Anatomy, anthropometry and physiology in human activities
- Environmental stressors (performance shaping factors) and psychophysiology
- Socio-technical systems
- General and organisational psychology
- Survey and research methods
Alternatively, a course may cover areas of interest to ergonomists, such as professional practice, for example training in manual handling, workplace assessments, design.
Who will assess my course?
Your course will be assessed by the Education & Training Panel, a sub-committee of the Professional Affairs Board of the IEHF.
How will my course be promoted?
Courses accredited by the IEHF will be actively promoted through this website, at conferences, and in response to enquiries for training. The IEHF will only promote accredited courses. You can use a special IEHF accredited course logo and the text "This is an IEHF accredited course" in your publicity for the course. Only accredited courses are recommended to people who ask us about ergonomics/human factors training. Once accredited, details of the course will appear in the next edition of our membership magazine 'The Ergonomist'.
What are the criteria for accreditation?
Teaching staff: In order for the course to be recognised, the teaching staff must hold suitable and sufficient qualifications or experience in the subject being taught. For example, they would usually be a Registered Member of an appropriate professional body.
Content: A short course could cover part of one or more of the knowledge areas above, or some of the broad spectrum of areas of interest for ergonomists.
Assessment: Assessment of those on your course is not a necessity, but it is good practice.
How much does accreditation cost?
The application fee for the course to be assessed is £50 + VAT
The Registration fee for a successful course (year 1) is £100 + VAT
The annual renewal fee (year 2 onwards) is £50 + VAT
If required we can issue you with a certificate for each successful attendee whenever your course is run, the cost of which is £10 per certificate issued.
How long does my course accreditation last?
Accreditation lasts for three years or until changes are made to any key area (i.e. duration, teaching staff, content, assessment). At this time the course must be reassessed. The IEHF reserves the right to carry out random spot checks on any of the accredited courses.
How do I apply to get my course accredited?
You will need to submit:
1. The completed application form
2. The application fee
3. CVs of staff delivering a combined total of at least 75% of the course
4. A detailed syllabus of the course including information on course design, content, components, practical work, hand-outs, reading lists and target audience
The documents must be emailed to the IEHF office, iehf@ergonomics.org.uk. Information supplied will be kept confidential and used solely for the assessment.
